Atop a hill just east of town, the Reading Pagoda looms like a ghost of 19th century Japan. Unique in the area for both its style and its prominent location, the fascinating red-and-gold structure serves as a scenic stop for passers-by as well as a nice little cafe and gift shop. Finished in 1908 and standing 72 feet tall, the structure has served odd functions in prior decades: acting as a signal for firemen as well as giving off patterns of colored lights that shared the outcomes of fundraisers and sporting events. Located on the hill that winds close to Mineral Spring Park, the building is just a short drive from downtown and well worth the trip.
Call for cafe and gift shop hours.
